About

Brentwood Farms is a family-owned horse breeding establishment that was started in 1902 by Thomas J. Marquis, his wife Jade, and his two sons Jacob and Mark. Thomas and his family started with their first horse, Black Shadow, which was gift from a prominent horse racer on the national circuit. Black Shadow was 4-years-old, so he was no longer able to compete in the Kentucky Derby, so the horse’s owner gave him to us instead of putting him down. We like to call it our little “equine miracle.” From there, we began breeding horses, learning as we go and speaking with professional breeders to pick up the tips and tricks of the trade. Years later, we are now a famous horse breeding group in the Fort Worth area and have seen numerous horses we bred and raised win events across the United States and some abroad. Check out our 2019 performance here:

We also competed in the 2020 race. We had a total of 5 horses running in the Kentucky Derby and we couldn’t be more proud. See that here:

The famous horse, Authentic, won the 2020 Kentucky Derby is a shocking victory, jockeyed by John Velazquez. John is a 5-time winner of Triple Crown races and a 3-time winner at the Derby. Unfortunately, John’s team is the one team that hasn’t bought a horse from us. In time, you’ll see other horse racers using our broodmares to win events in the States. It just takes some time to get our name out there because marketing has never been our strong point.

When you and your investors are ready to start winning races, look to the horse breeder that consistently deliver top quality results, the Brentwood Farms horse racing family.
