Building a New Deck for the Patrons

One of the great things about our location and the fact that we’re on a farm is the space. We’re situated a few hundred yards from a gorgeous tree line and we’ve got a mountainous view in the background. It’s nothing short of picturesque and looks like it should be on a postcard. If you walk out the back of the visitor building, you step onto the grass; there’s nothing there. From the second floor, there’s a nice view out the back because of the floor to ceiling windows, but you can’t walk outside. Mike Yearty, a loyal horse racing customer of 30 years, pointed out that maybe we should build a deck. It could be a viewing platform and would actually work well if we ever hosted a party. Our leadership team loved Mike’s idea and started working on it right away. They hired a remodeler to knock down the back wall and build a stable concrete platform on the bottom floor to support a deck above it. We decided on a wooden deck, but weren’t sure of the color because there were so many options. We could choose from teak wood, Cumaru, composite, Ipe Wood, Redwood, Cedar, and even plastic. There were far too many decking materials to pick from, so we called a few local decking contractors. We ended up hiring Albany Deck Builders’ team of deck installers to construct the wooden deck with Ipe Wood tiles. This decking material is perfect for making the balcony. The wood is long-lasting, easy to install, doesn’t require much maintenance, and it resists mold. Best of all, we can now watch sunsets off the back of the building and enjoy a nice view while sipping drinks with our prospective customers. Engraved in the center of the deck is a dedication to Mike for the idea.  The wooden beams are supported with concrete on the 1st floor.
